The views from the road are breathtaking. It's a sight to behold.

    Village Gryz:

The Gryz people, inhabitants of the village Gryz, and the Gryz language they speak are relics of ancient Albanians. The Gryz language belongs to the Shahdagh subgroup of the Nakh-Dagestan language family and is one of the richest languages of ancient Albania, preserved to this day. The Gryz language is known for its rich vocabulary, including specific terms for horizontal and vertical directions. The Kura River holds sacred significance for the Gryz people.

Gryz is strategically located, resembling a natural fortress due to its rocky surroundings. It is considered a natural fortress because three sides of the village are rocky. Sheikhali Khan Gubali, the son of Fatali Khan and later the Khan of Guba, chose Gryz as his headquarters in the struggle against Tsarist Russia, which captured the Guba Khanate in 1806.

Gryz is also the first village where Jews settled after migrating from the historical territory of Iran to Azerbaijan. Later, with the permission of Fatali Khan, Jews moved to the settlement of Krasnaya Sloboda, where they still reside.

In Gryz, remnants of the Abu Mosque (8th century), one of the first mosques built in Azerbaijan, still exist. The bridge built over the Gudyalchay River when transitioning from the Khynalyg road to the Gryz road is considered the tallest automobile bridge in Azerbaijan.
